PARADISE OF THE FUTURE:

CULTURE FOR TOMORROW

In the concert hall, we aim to create musical paradises and open up dream worlds. At the same time, we hold ambitious hopes for the future of our planet. That is why we are active not only on stage, but also take responsibility for a sustainable and fair society in the way we work and the choices we make.

A voice message from Theresia Thamm, Transformation Manager for Sustainable Culture & Personal Assistant to the General Manager

In June 2025 – the sunniest month of the year – the newly installed photovoltaic system on the roof of the Kulturpalast generated 29,041 kilowatt hours of electricity.

This would allow an electric car (average consumption: fifteen kilowatt hours per one hundred kilometres) to travel around 190,000 kilometres – almost five times around the Earth.

Since 2022, the Dresdner Philharmonie has been actively involved in the Culture for Future network and is committed to the Dresden Charter for Sustainability in the Cultural Sector. Since 2023, we have been measuring our CO₂ emissions and implementing concrete measures based on the results.

WHAT WE DO SPECIFICALLY

ELECTRICITY & ENERGY:

Since 2025, a photovoltaic system on the roof of the Kulturpalast has been supplying part of our electricity. At the same time, we are improving efficiency and reducing energy consumption, particularly in technical areas – for example by switching to LED lighting.

COMMUNICATION:

Sustainability must also be visible and audible. We address the topic through artistic initiatives. A key element in this context is our art projects on the forecourt of the Kulturpalast, which also contribute to climate adaptation.

STEP BY STEP:

In everyday working life, it is often the small things that make a difference: printing less on paper, choosing fair-trade food during lunch breaks, separating waste properly, cycling to work and turning off the lights at the end of the day.

WHAT OUR AUDIENCE CAN DO

TRAVEL SUSTAINABLY:

The tram stops right in front of the Kulturpalast – we encourage you to use public transport, share a ride with other concertgoers or come by bike.

USE DIGITAL PRODUCTS:

Almost all of our publications are also available in digital form. This season’s brochure is available online as an interactive version, programme booklets can be found on our website, and our online concert calendar provides an overview of the coming months.

SPREAD THE WORD & GET INVOLVED:

Sustainability is a shared responsibility – so join us in this effort, get in touch, and feel free to engage critically with the topic.
