Lost and Regained – Paradises
Dear guests,
What is a paradise? Perhaps not a place, but a state of perfection in which sound, space, and human beings come together. This season, the Dresdner Philharmonie explores the spectrum between loss and rediscovery, reminding us that a paradise can never be possessed, only recreated – through music, togetherness, in the present moment.
The season opens with Mendelssohn’s >Lobgesang<, celebrating faith, hope, and renewal. Sir Donald Runnicles leads Respighi’s >Pini di Roma< and Orff’s >Carmina Burana<, reflecting both the allure and the danger of idealised visions. Other highlights include our Georgia Spotlights, curated by Lisa Batiashvili and inspired by Nino Haratischwili’s latest novel, bridging East and West, memory and renewal. In Beethoven’s anniversary year, Artist in Residence Kirill Gerstein and a new edition of Beethoven’s >Leonore< explore Europe’s musical conscience and the pursuit of freedom and humanism.
Our concert hall – open, transparent, and resonant – celebrates its 10th anniversary in April 2027. >Paradises< also reflects our wish for our city and our time: a desire for beauty amidst change, courage for the new, and the hope that music can, for a moment, let us experience a piece of paradise, even in uncertain times.
I look forward to seeing you at the concerts of the Dresdner Philharmonie!
Yours sincerely
